This year the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies will hold its 11^th annual Symposium on Korean Studies on August 23 and 24. The Symposium brings together 5 to 6 panels of scholars from across the globe, and has established itself as one of the prime venues for the presentation of in-depth research on Korean Studies. The theme for this year’s Symposium is “Conflict, Reconciliation, and Records.” Technically still at war, the Korean peninsula has often been the stage of war, rebellion, and conflict. This conference will look especially at how Koreans have tried to make sense of these conflicts, and how they have sought to reestablish peace or international relations in the aftermath of these conflicts. We would like to invite in particular panels that look at the records of conflict: war novels, diplomatic negotiation, or reminiscences. While “Conflict” itself has received substantial attention from researchers, the reconciliation or processing of conflict has received much less attention, and this is what the symposium aims to address.
